Adopt NIPSS reports to improve socio-economic development – Governor Emmanuel tells FG

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has urged the federal government to adopt the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) study tour reports to reverse the nation’s declining socio-economic and political situation .

Emmanuel gave the charge when participants of NIPSS’s 44, 2022 Executive Course, who are on a study tour in the state, paid him a courtesy call at Government House, Uyo, on Friday.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo, described the NIPSS as the highest political “think tank” in the country.

He noted that the institute and its study participants have continued to make significant contributions to the betterment of different sectors of our national life without commensurate use.

He said the product of a multi-sector study group that seeks to come up with practical solutions to the nation’s problems should be better used to shape the nation’s policy framework.

“The fact that you can visit every part of this country at any time gives you a national view of our nation, so you need to know the issues and help the government address those challenges to help improve the country,” Emmanuel mentioned.

The governor reassured course participants of the state’s commitment to support and be part of all that will bring progress to the country.

Earlier, the head of the delegation, retired Brigadier-General. CFJ Udaya, said the institution has helped formulate policies for the government.

Udaya said that on an annual basis, the institute organizes the course for senior executives tasked by the federal government to tackle topical and challenging governance issues.

He added that the federal government is using the instrument of the National Institute’s Senior Executives Course to address the challenges facing the country.

He explained that the participants were divided into seven study groups and are to visit 14 states in the federation, seven northern states and seven southern states.

He said, “Akwa Ibom has been selected as one of the states for the study tour on the theme: ‘Strengthening Local Governance, Challenges, Options and Opportunities’.
