Canada invests in the economic development of Pickle Lake

FedNor funding helps support businesses and is expected to maintain or create 15 jobs in Northwestern Ontario

Ensuring that all Canadians benefit from and experience our country’s successes is essential to the strength of our nation. That’s why we are committed to helping rural municipalities build their local economy. Through regional development agencies like FedNor, the federal government invests in communities to help small and medium-sized businesses grow and create meaningful jobs for Canadians.

The Honorable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced a Government of Canada investment of $216,548 to help create and maximize community economic development opportunities in Pickle Lake.

Provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Community Investment Initiative (CIINO), the funding will allow Pickle Lake to retain an Economic Development Officer (EDO) on staff for an additional three years, and will maintain or create a minimum of 15 jobs. Building on the success the position has achieved to date, ADE will undertake a variety of priority projects that will strengthen the economy, position the community for sustainable growth and prosperity, and build on the labor market. local employment. This includes the construction of a multi-purpose training and innovation center, the improvement and development of recreational sites and facilities, the revitalization of the downtown area and the development of highway and airport commercial properties.
