New websites launched to boost tourism in Nelson, Brierfield and Barnoldswick

New town center websites are being launched to encourage locals and visitors to support business and make the most of being in East Lancashire.

Websites are launched for Nelson, Brierfield and Barnoldswick, with the aim of boosting tourism and spending in Pendle.

Pendle Borough Council leader Councilor Nadeem Ahmed said: “We are working hard to support our town centers in an area that has been among the hardest hit in the country, during the pandemic.

“Thanks to money from the Government’s Return Fund to help us build back better after the pandemic, we have been able to develop these new digital hubs for our cities.”

The government support, which comes from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), is designed to support the safe return to high streets.

It is also being used to supply new digital screens in Nelson – between Place de Creil and Pendle Rise Shopping Center and in Colne at Queen Street and Hartley Square.

This additional funding draws on the High Street Safely Reopening Fund, which Pendle has also benefited from.

These websites are now live and include listings of businesses and shops, as well as things to see and do for people and visitors to Pendle, as well as information about the local community:

The council’s tourism and economic development manager, Mike Williams, said: “It was great to help create these new websites which will benefit all businesses in the town centers of Barnoldswick, Nelson and Brierfield.

“We hope that all stores and businesses that are not listed on their city’s website will contact me to take advantage of this free promotion and participate as a large part of their city’s offer.”

Mike added: “There are currently 67 business and community listings and we hope to quickly build on this strong start.

“We will work with local councils to help energize these new websites and develop plans for them to be taken over and run locally by communities.”
