Dubai, United Arab Emirates–(BUSINESS WIRE)–RELX International, the multinational company responsible for electronic cigarettes, has successfully completed extensive training for officials of the Abu Dhabi Customs Authority and the Department of Economic Development (DED).
Previously, RELX International organized a similar training session for Ras Al Khaimah Customs Authority officials. To enhance their effectiveness, RELX International has collaborated with leading intellectual property (IP) company SABA IP.
The programs developed demonstrate the leading vaping brand’s commitment to combating the illicit trade in electronic cigarette (e-cig) products with authorities and government agencies and underscores its dedication to the RELX Commitment, which includes its program Golden Shield pioneer.
The training covered several aspects including: the identification of legal products from illegal products (smuggling/counterfeiting); raise awareness and educate people about the consequences of the illegal trade in e-cigs; share research and information on identifying illegal business activities; work with government officials to track and confiscate counterfeit products, as well as develop and implement product authentication, tracking and tracing technologies.
Contraband and counterfeit e-cigarettes are produced in unregulated facilities and pose a serious health risk to consumers of legal age and minors . It has been scientifically proven that counterfeit e-cigs are dangerous for several reasons: use of an inferior e-liquid formula; the e-liquid contains harmful substances; capsules frequently leak; the capsules are made without a quality certificate, and there is significant misinformation about the dosage of nicotine in the capsules.
“The training sessions for Abu Dhabi Customs Authority, Department of Economic Development (DED) and Ras Al Khaimah Customs Authority demonstrate RELX International’s commitment, as a responsible company, to working with local authorities, investigation companies and e-commerce platforms to identify and remove contraband and counterfeit e-cigarettes from the market, as part of the RELX commitment.
“We are delighted to have been able to follow these targeted training sessions, after having followed similar sessions for the Saudi customs authorities in May”, said Robert Naouss, Director of External Affairs – MENA & Europe at RELX International.
RELX International implemented the Golden Shield program in August 2019 to prevent the production and sale of illicit goods. Since its inauguration, it has had a significant impact, removing over 550,000 counterfeit products from the market, as well as over 77,000 websites.
In line with the company’s commitment to protecting the rights of legal e-cigarette users and combating the illicit trade in e-cigarettes under the Golden Shield program, additional training sessions are planned in countries in the Middle East. East, especially in Egypt and Jordan.
As part of the RELX Pledge initiative, the Golden Shield program, the Guardian program and Green Shoots cover areas ranging from product development to sales, prevention and discouraging the use of e-cigarette products by minors, through joint efforts with retailers to strengthen on-site identification. .
The Golden Shield program also aims to give consumers the knowledge to verify genuine products through three different methods: by authentication code on the packaging of genuine projects; a laser tag which, when viewed from different angles, will display the letters “L” and “X”, and via the QR code on the pods.
