By Ruben Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Economic Development (MED), through its Resilient Rural Belize (RRB) program, is inviting expressions of interest for a consultation on strengthening gender equality and social inclusion for 30 targeted producer organizations.
Resilient Rural Belize (RRB) is a six-year program that the Government of Belize launched under a funding agreement with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The goal of the program is to minimize the impacts of climatic and economic events on smallholder farmers while supporting sustainable market access for their products.
The program is expected to support farmers to use climate-resilient agricultural practices and technologies so that they can improve the development of selected vegetable, fruit and honey value chains.
“The program aims to provide investments and interventions to a minimum of 30 producer organizations, which are spread across the country,” the Ministry of Economic Development said.
“However, the participation of women and youth as full members of FOs has been limited, limiting their access to decision-making and key program investments. This scenario does not allow women and youth to participate and benefit from profitable economic activities and program benefits,”
To this end, the Resilient Rural Belize program is committed to mainstreaming gender equality and social inclusion (GESI), whereby “youth, women and men have equal access to and control over resources for development, benefits and decision-making to all. stages of development processes, projects, programs and policies in the agricultural sector”.
Based on these premises, the individual consultant should provide an inception report, a training completion report for each group, a small booklet or handout, and a consultation completion report.
To be eligible for this consultation, the gender consultant must have at least a bachelor’s degree in gender studies, sociology, social work, development studies and/or agriculture; must be fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish; have experience in conducting GESI surveys and using participatory methodologies; and experience in conducting training sessions on topics related to youth, gender equity and social inclusion.
The deadline for submitting the Request for Expression of Interest is 10:00 a.m. on May 13, 2022.
“Individual Consultants interested in receiving the Request for Expression of Interest (REOI) document for this consultancy should register their interest by sending an email (with subject line: Request for REOI – Strengthening Gender Equality and inclusion for 30 targeted producer organizations to the procurement officer at nvernon.RRB@med.gov.bz giving full contact details of the consultant. This will ensure that consultants receive updates regarding this consultation,” said declared MED.
Consultants can submit their proposals to the Department of Economic Development at the National Agriculture Showgrounds in Belmopan or electronically at https://bit.ly/3Kd46zX
